2026-2027 — the complete guide

Every winter, Le Barcarès transforms. The seaside resort in the Pyrénées-Orientales, better known for its beaches and its tramontane wind, swaps warm sand for ice, fairy lights and the smell of mulled wine. Le Barcarès Christmas Village has become one of the big end-of-year events in the south of France, and the 2026-2027 edition looks set to be just as generous.

New this year: the giant Yeti who lifts you up in his hand, The Christmas Miracle (a show of over 500 drones every Friday evening), the Magic Express, Santa's Land and its 200 animatronics, the Little Sleighs and the return of the Mountain Chalets. Add the natural ice rink, the revamped ice museum, the enchanted forest and the chalets: here is everything you need to know before you come, plus our tips for organising your stay.

What's new for 2026-2027

"The magic returns. The experience evolves." This edition brings new attractions, new decorations and new parades. Here is what the organisers have announced:

The ice rink

The centrepiece of the village, the natural ice rink welcomes skaters of every level — from first steps on the ice to more confident figures. Figure skating shows are held there regularly: choreographed performances, usually in the evening, watched from the edge of the rink. It is the kind of moment children remember — and parents too.

The ice museum

The ice museum has been completely redesigned for this edition, with new staging. You wander among sculptures carved from ice, in a cold blue atmosphere that contrasts with the rest of the village. Bring a warm jacket: the temperature inside is kept at −10 °C.

The enchanted forest

Snow-covered fir trees, illuminated mazes and life-size Christmas scenes: the enchanted forest is the most contemplative part of the village. It is also the most photogenic, especially at dusk when the lights take over.

Santa's house

An essential stop if you have children. In Santa's house, a fairy-tale world where mischievous animals and wide-eyed children get the festive magic ready, Santa welcomes families. For the souvenir photo (€10), two photo stands await you this year: alongside Santa, or in the world of the Three Kings. To see behind the scenes of the legend, head for the new Santa's Land attraction and its 200 animatronics.

Funfair rides and thrill attractions

The Luna Park site naturally lends itself to rides. Grouped together as the Kingdom of Thrills, they are spread all around the village: vintage rides, carousels for the little ones and livelier attractions for older children. Their music and lights are part of the atmosphere, and let you alternate between quiet moments and bursts of adrenaline. They are paid rides, with prices displayed on site.

The virtual sleigh and the little trains

Three further experiences complete the route:

• The virtual sleigh ride: sit in a sleigh, put on a virtual-reality headset and fly over enchanted Christmas landscapes as if you were in Santa's own sleigh (€5 per trip).
• The Magic Express (new): the illuminated little train that winds through the heart of the village, by day and by night. Gentle enough for young children and grandparents alike.
• Santa's Land (new): the adventure starts in a train carriage, followed by a series of scenes brought to life by over 200 animatronics.

Parades and entertainment

New parades have been announced for this edition. They regularly make their way through the village: costumed characters, music, illuminated floats. Timings vary from day to day — ask at the entrance when you arrive, or check the programme on the official site.

3. The Christmas Miracle: 500 drones on Friday evenings

This is the big new feature of the edition: every Friday evening, The Christmas Miracle (Le Miracle de Noël) sends a constellation of over 500 drones into the sky above Le Barcarès for a 360° light show. Santa tells a poetic story in which fairy-tale characters come to life in a choreography of light. A moment to share as a family.

A few pointers to make the most of it:

• Arrive early on Fridays: it is the busiest evening of the week.
• Wrap up warm: the show is watched outdoors, and even on the coast the tramontane can make December evenings biting.
• Plan something calm straight after: the ice rink, a hot chocolate or the Magic Express; the village stays open until 1am.

4. Food and drink at the village

Food is very much part of the experience. Between two attractions, the village has plenty to keep you going all evening:

• Mulled wine — the spiced classic, to sip as you wander the alleys.
• Baked camembert — oven-roasted, served with bread, made for sharing.
• Roasted chestnuts — the smell that follows you around the whole visit.
• Raclette — scraped fresh from the wheel, on a plate or in a sandwich.
• Street food stalls — crêpes, churros, waffles and candy floss for the children.
• The Mountain Chalets — back this year: three restaurants perched above the village like mountain chalets, indoors in the warm or out on the terrace, overlooking the shows and the lights.
• The large restaurants — for a proper sit-down meal in the warm.

The village also has craft chalets (handmade creations) and an official gift shop full of new items: presents, decorations and local produce from the Pyrénées-Orientales.

Practical: there is no cash machine inside the village. The nearest ones are on Place de la République, a 5-minute walk from the entrance. Picnics are not allowed in the park.

5. Where to stay next to the village

The Christmas Village works very well over two days: a first evening for the night-time atmosphere (ideally a Friday, for the drone show), a second day for the attractions without rushing. That means staying nearby — and out of season, Le Barcarès is quiet, affordable and just minutes from the site.

Premium Pass

• Premium Pass — €20 per person: 1 park entry, 1 Ice Museum entry, 1 Santa's Magical World entry, 1 virtual sleigh ride and 1 Little Sleighs lap.
• Family Premium Pass — €38 (2 adults + 2 children aged 0-10): 4 of each item above.

Ice rink

Sold on site only, no time limit. Gloves are compulsory.

Other attractions (sold on site)

Good to know: tickets bought online are valid any day except special evenings (New Year's Eve). They cannot be changed or refunded; buy them only on the official website, as resale sites do not guarantee entry. Exit from the park is final; dogs (even on a lead), picnics and motorcycle helmets are not allowed. Ice activities may be interrupted or cancelled without refund. 7. Getting there, parking and shuttle

The village is set up on the Luna Park site in Le Barcarès — see the location on Google Maps. Here is how to get there.

By car

From the A9 motorway:

• Exit 41 (Perpignan Nord) if you are coming from Barcelona or Perpignan
• Exit 40 (Leucate / Fitou) if you are coming from Narbonne, Montpellier or Toulouse

Then follow signs for Le Barcarès and the « Village de Noël » signposting to the car parks.

Parking and shuttle

Free car parks are provided around the site. A free shuttle, the Christmas little train, links the parking areas and the motorhome area to the village entrance, from 11am to midnight, every 30 minutes:

• outside school holidays: 1 little train on weekdays, 2 at weekends;
• during school holidays: 3 little trains every day.

Five free car parks serve the village, around 5 100 spaces in total. P1 has bays reserved for visitors with reduced mobility. Note: parking is not allowed on Avenue du Paquebot des Sables.

Capacities recorded during the previous edition: the 2026-2027 parking plan is still being finalised by the organisers.

A motorhome area with services is also open 24/7 (GPS: 42.802004, 3.033504).

By train

Perpignan station is around 20 minutes away by car (40 minutes by public transport). It is served by TGV and TER trains from major French and Spanish cities.

By bus

Line 10 connects Perpignan TGV station to Le Barcarès. Check the winter timetable before you travel: it differs from the summer one, and the last service runs well before the village closes.

By plane

Perpignan — Sud de France airport is around a 20-minute drive from Le Barcarès.

8. Our tips for a great visit

Choosing the right time

Dressing for it

The climate in the Pyrénées-Orientales is mild, but two things change the equation: the tramontane, which drops the feels-like temperature in the evening, and the ice museum, kept below freezing. Bring layers, a hat and gloves — especially if you plan to skate.

With children

• Start with Santa's house early in the visit, before tiredness sets in.
• The new Little Sleighs (alone or in pairs) and Santa's Land are big hits with children.
• Entry is free up to age 5, but a ticket is still required: book it along with yours.
• Save the enchanted forest and the lights for dusk (around 5.30pm in December).
• A pushchair gets everywhere, but bring a blanket: the alleys are outdoors.
• Staying nearby means a midday nap and a return to the village in the evening.

Photography

The best light is between 5pm and 7pm: the sky is still deep blue and the lights are already on — the famous blue hour, which works especially well in the enchanted forest and on the rides.

9. What else to do during your stay

A December weekend in Le Barcarès is not limited to the Christmas village. The region offers plenty of winter escapes:

• Collioure (45 min) — the painters' village is beautiful out of season, without the summer crowds.
• Leucate oysters (15 min) — tastings facing the lagoon, a local institution.
• The Leucate cliffs (20 min) — a windy walk with sweeping views over the Mediterranean.
• Perpignan (20 min) — the historic centre, the Palace of the Kings of Majorca and Christmas markets in town.
• The Ille-sur-Têt organ pipes (45 min) — spectacular rock formations, superb in winter light.
